Next to your home, your vehicle is probably your most valuable asset so it’s important to keep safety in mind when turning your vehicle over to a car shipping company for transport. Not only is safety a huge responsibility for the shipping company, but also for the owner of the vehicle. It is important to take the proper measures to ensure your car is safe during the shipping process. Here are a few things you can do to ensure your car arrives safely at its destination.

Choose a Reputable Shipping Company

Take your time looking for the right car shipping company. This decision should not be based solely on price because some companies might be cheaper but they might not follow the proper guidelines and safety recommendations. Remember that your vehicle will be in the hands of the auto shipper so you want to leave your vehicle with a company that makes the safety of your vehicle a top priority.

Inspect Your Car Before and After Transport

Before you hand your car over to a shipping company, you want to take the proper precautions to ensure the state of your vehicle. Wash your car and give it a good clean, as this makes it easier to see scratches, dings, or dents. Make a note of any damage that you notice and even take pictures of your vehicle if possible. Once your car arrives at its new destination, check your car again for any new damage.

Remove All Personal Belongings

Shipping companies are not responsible for any items that remain in your vehicle during transport. Don’t risk theft or damage to your belongings and take the time to remove all personal items before handing your car over.

Check Tire Pressure and Battery

Before shipping your vehicle, you want to make sure your tires are inflated according to the recommendations. You also want to check for any mechanical problems such as your battery to be sure everything is in proper working order prior to transport.

Check for Insurance

Although you don’t anticipate damage to your vehicle, accidents do happen so you want to be insured just in case. Check with your car shipping company to see if they offer insurance and know the terms of their insurance policy. You should also check with your own auto insurance company to see if you need to add additional coverage.

Answers to Your Car Moving Questions

The hardest thing for people researching car moving companies to understand is that the prices they are getting are not hard and fast gaurantees, but rather ESTIMATES of what one company thinks it will take to get a vehicle moved promptly versus another company's opinion of what it will take. Don't be fooled, there are not carriers committed to take your vehicle at these quoted prices, the company you choose will still have to get to work getting a carrier to commit to move it at the price they quote you.

Your total price breaks down into two parts, the broker's fee (or 'deposit' as everyone calls it) and the carriers fee (your COD amount) Make no mistake about this, EVERYONE YOU ARE GETTING SALES CALLS FROM IS GOING TO BROKER YOUR MOVE. In this industry, there are brokers who try to fool you into thinking that they are the actual carriers and there are an equal amount of carriers who sell themselves on the fact that they have a truck or two but are not being honest about the fact that they broker out 90% of the orders they book. Here is a quick easy way to tell, if a company takes an up front fee, whether they call it a deposit or any other name, they are a broker. Carriers do not take any payment until the vehicle is delivered.

In our opinion, you are crazy to do so. Have you ever been paid up front for the work that you perform for your employer? Why would you pay a fee up front when there are reliable and trustworthy companies like ours that won't ask for it until we provide you with your carriers details?

The average transit time from pick up to delivery on any vehicle going coast to coast will be between one and two weeks. From there you can figure your transit time based on how far your vehicle is traveling, i.e. from either coast to the Midwest might average 3-7 days.
