If you own a luxury vehicle then you understand the importance of protecting your investment at all costs. This includes taking the right steps to have your luxury vehicle shipped properly. Putting trust in a company to safely ship your luxury vehicle can certainly be a nerve wracking process, so here are some helpful tips to ensure your vehicle arrives safely at its destination.

DO Research Auto Shipping Companies

To safeguard your luxury car, it is essential to choose a reliable auto transport company. Take some time and research a few companies, checking their ratings and reviews. You should also check the carrier information and records of their agency by using their MC number.  A reputable company should also be registered through the USDOT, and they should provide you with a copy of the carrier’s insurance to check their coverage. It is vital to perform your due diligence in order to find the best auto transport company that will handle your car professionally and responsibly.

DON’t Forget About Insurance

You can’t assume that your personal auto insurance will cover your vehicle while in transport. Always check with your insurance provider and talk with them about adding additional coverage. You should also talk with the auto transport company about their insurance coverage and explore any options to add additional insurance if needed.

DO Prepare Your Vehicle for Shipment

There are several things you should do to prepare your vehicle for shipment. Start by washing your vehicle inside and out and record any existing damage. Take pictures of the inside and outside of your vehicle, including the engine and the undercarriage. Make sure the battery is fully charged, the tires are inflated, and the gas tank is no more than one-quarter full. Finally, remove all personal belongings from the vehicle.

DON’T Select an Open Carrier

Though they are a cheaper option, open air carriers are not the best option for luxury vehicles. Bad weather conditions and falling debris could damage your vehicle while in transport. Enclosed carriers are a much better option for luxury vehicles. This method provides added protection and security for your valuable vehicle.

DO Inspect Your Vehicle Upon Delivery

When you vehicle is close to its destination, you should receive a call from the carrier with an anticipated date and time of delivery. Upon delivery, be sure and thoroughly inspect your vehicle. Bring the photos you took prior to shipment so you can compare your vehicle’s condition. In the unlikely event that your vehicle was damaged, make sure it is reported and noted on the Bill of Lading.

The cost to ship a car is based upon the size of the vehicle, the distance it is being shipped, and the value of the vehicle. Therefore, it should be expected that you will pay a higher price to ship a luxury vehicle. DON’T try to find the cheapest price, as this can sometimes be a red flag that the shipping company is not as reputable. When it comes to shipping a luxury vehicle, it is worth it to invest the extra money to ensure your vehicle arrives safely.
